monitor suddently shows black/white striped lines

Sometimes when I'm on my computer. The screen will show black/white striped lines over the whole screen. I can still hear sound so I'm assuming my computer is running properly. I usually just press the restart button and everything is fine after that. This has occured maybe twice over the last week and a half. I usually leave my computer on all day and is probably off for only like 6 hrs of the day.

Does this mean its the video card that has a problem? It probably is safe to just keep using until it permanently malfunctions?

Sounds like the card is getting hot. What are the temps when it does that?

it just happened again today..

its about 40-42 C i think

that doesn't seem like its too hot

You could try the monitor on a different computer to see if it happens again with different video input.

another thing that i noticed was that my mouse still shows over the black and white stripes...so most likely a video card problem?

another thing i noticed...it only appears when i come out of full screen from watching a video...

any help would be great? i'm guessing its not the monitor

so either video card or mobo? what do u guys think?

It sounds like what Tick mentioned; the card is gettibg hot. Chances are good that the fan on your VC died and needs replacing. Same thing just happened to me and that's what it was.
