Hey,

My monitor's documentation lists the max resolution at 1280 x 1024, and the max refresh rate at that res as being 60Hz.

The thing is that without the actual monitor drivers installed (running on XP) the res can go up to 1920x1200. Likewise the refresh rate at 1280 x 1024 can go up to 120Hz without any problems (like the monitor blacking out).

Would it be all right to run it at these higher resolutions/refresh rates? I was always under the impression that if a monitor didn't officially support a res/refresh rate, it just wouldn't display it, but this has me wondering. I'd really like to be running a higher refresh rate, but I'm a bit worried it may cause damage. Is that possible?

Here's my monitor:

Cicero Monitor

The brand is basically an OEM brand for other manufacturers. I've done some research, and found that my monitor is actually a Hansol monitor. Here's the specs:

Thanks for your time.

Yes, running at a higher refresh rate reduces the life span of your monitor but I'm not sure if the reduction of the lifespan is significant.

I was going to post earlier but got side tracked ;)...Anyways the refresh rate works in Unison with your Vid card and in instance I would think that going 75-80Hz (esp. in 1024 X768 mode) would be alright...if it's not your picture will not expand or fit right (then try 16bit) in the screen. I don't think any resolution requires much more then that although some may disagree

Thanks for the info. :)

I was just a bit worried because the specs listed the max. res as being 1280x1024 @ 60hz, but my monitor was actually capable of displaying much higher. I've been using 1600x1280 for games and such, and I was starting to get a bit paranoid and expecting somekind of implosion in the near future.

It just seems kind of strange that the monitor would display it, but it's not listed on the spec sheet.

Thanks again.
