monitor stays black

when i click on a particular game demo (aoeII)that I dl, the monitor dose that clicking noise but then it gose black and stays there
even if i try to reboot, or shut the monitor on and off over again it still stays black

the only way it gose back to normal is if i shut down for a while

does this sound like its related to a bugy game demo, bad monitor, or a bad video card

If you just shut down your monitor for a while, not your computer, does the screen still stay black (after you have turned it on again ;-)? then it is most certainly the video card. Otherwise, it may be the monitor wich blacks out.

If you can, try setting the demo to run at a lower resolution, if that doesn't work, try to change the monitor refresh rate. This should do the job either way.

yes if i shut the monitor down fo a fminute or so it still comes upp black, the only way I got it back was shutting down the whole system and rebooting an hour or so later.



That said, I dont know what that hour did to allow it to work

Try to shut down just the monitor for as long as you needed to have your computer shut down, if the screen still stays black, then the problem is either with the resolution or the refresh rate, if changing these does not work, then try to update your drivers, update your video cards bios, if that doesn't work either, then get back to this thread.

BTW, wich video card do you have? and what monitor?
