Monitor Snow?

I recently purchased a Samsung 204b and have it hooked up to my computer. I am using a GeForce TI 200 (64mb) to run it. However, and I noticed this with my 17" CRT monitor, that from time to time, there is what appears to be "background snow" on the screen. It is just dim enought to not see it unless you are paying close attention.

Does anyone have a clue what this is or how to fix it? Given that it has happened on both monitors, I am wondering if it is the graphics card.

The cable is the new one that came with the LCD monitor. The one for the old CRT is hardwired to the monitor itself. I also just observed that by looking at the monitor "off angle", one can see the "snow" more clearly.
 
Once when I bought a new piece of hardware for my computer, it wasn't working at all, and I couldn't figure it out because I was using all of the new stuff that came with it and I had checked all of the drivers and it was plugged in and everything, so it was particularly frustrating. So in the end I switched out the cable that came with it with the cable of the hardware that I upgraded and it turned out that was the problem all along.
 
In that case, the wire connections in your CRT's cable is failing. I've had this happen to one of my CRTs a long time ago.
 
Well, I will hunt up a new cable and give this a try. Bummer if it turns out to be two bad cables! I will let you know...

How are you going to get a new cable if its hard wired? You gonna do some wire chopping?
 
The CRT cable is hardwired. The LCD came with a new cable. I am currently using the LCD with the new cable. I will therefore purchase a new cable to try it out.
 
If you are getting the same interference with 2 different monitors and 2 different cables (one hard wired and one not), it doesn't sound like a cable problem to me.

exactly. I think there is a bad connection inside the gfx card
 
Okay, I removed the video card, gave it a good dusting, re-seated it, and plugged the LCD monitor back in with the VGA Analog cable (the one the monitor came with)...no help.

We didn't say that it needed to be dusted, basically I think it needs to be replaced...although I can't say I have ever seen what you are talking about happen before on a computer
 
I am building a new system (as soon as the motherboard and RAM arrive) with an E6600 and 7900GT, so it will be quite the upgrade. I am hoping that with this upgrade, and getting a new DVI cable, that it may stop. I have had this system with this graphics card for about 3 years or so (maybe longer).

In either case, I will pick up a new DVI cable and try this instead of the standard VGA one as I will need it anyway.
 
Looks like it was the video card. I switched this out with another one and seems to have solved the problem. Thanks, everyone!
 
Yup, you were right...as was I from the original post ; ). Not that it matters a whole heck of a lot as I just ordered the motherbaord and RAM last night as the final pieces for my new build! Should hopefully be here by next week and ready to go for the weekend!

PS - For what it's worth and if anyone cares at all, I can definitely, recommend the Samsung 204B for an LCD monitor. I chose this after much reading, research, topics from all of you, etc. until I went beyond blue in the face!

I have always recommended that panel. Great deal for the resolution and size!
 
Yeah, I'm pretty impressed. I bought it at a match price for $299 (listed around $350), and have the $60 rebate to go with it. This will bring it down to $239; pretty good deal in my book!

ya the cheapest I have seen it is $280
