Monitor shuts off during startup

A Casual Fitz

The monitor going black happened twice after the computer had been on for a while at first. Now whenever I turn on my computer, everything starts up fine initially until after the windows xp logo deal. Then the monitor just goes black (shutting off) and nothing is booting up. Eventually (sometimes) it'll just restart itself and the same problem will happen. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Can you boot into safe mode without it shutting off?
If you can, try uninstalling the vid card driver then reboot -
Does the problem happen now?

What card?
What chipset driver?
What vid card driver?
What bios?
What mobo?
What cooling solution?
What are your temps?

it was working for a short bit and then suddenly did it again. One time it messed up the screen got all fuzzy and multi-colored after freezing. Now it has just turned itself on twice in a row after I shut it down.

Yeah, there are a few of us here attempting to fix the problem. We uninstalled the ATI drivers, restarted, and then installed them again. It worked very shortly and then after gaming for a couple minutes the monitor shut off, turned on (screen was black) and then told us that the video card had stopped responding and had been reset. We're not overclocking anything, though this sounds like a power problem :

He has a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro, and we're gonna flash the (motherboard) bios to the latest version. Temps for the cpu are around 22-25 degrees Celcius on air, unless the mobo is reporting incorrectly.

Edited for clarity.
