Monitor shuts off after 5 mins

I have a problem playing both FarCry and Half-Life 2. After about 5 mins after staring the game (including loading) my monitor shuts off and goes into DPMS off mode. I've just tried with another monitor just 2 years old, and it's the same...I'm beginning to suspect my motherboard / graphics card to be at fault here, because I've tried just about anything else changing BIOS-settings and driver-versions for days now. And the power-saving options have all completely been shut off (and on and off again, just to make sure...)
My mobo is an Asus A8V-Deluxe WiFi running an Athlon64 3200+, and my graphics card is a Gainward GeForce 6800LE. Have read a lot of posts about this problem, but none seem to solve my problem. Has anyone heard about a remedy for this strange problem? I should add that other games like NFSU2 can be played for hours without any hiccups of any kind, it seems to be the fps-genre I'm not allowed to play...🙁

i dont know what dpms mode is, but you may want to try updating your bios, and also checking for patches for the games that arent working
