I have this really annoying problem with my Toshiba Tecra 8100 laptop. The monitor will just shut off at various times, and I have to press the little button under the monitor to get it back on. There is absolutely NO consistency to it whatsoever. Sometimes, it will be days in between the shutdown. Sometimes, it does it every 5 minutes. Usually, I can unplug the power supply to stop it if it gets too annoying, but that runs down the battery. Also, the shutoff does occur in battery mode also. I have replaced the power supply. I have updated the BIOS. I have updated the video drivers. What else can be causing this problem?

I am running Windows 2000.

Is Overheating a possible problem around the edge of any part of the screen.
There are a few bits and pieces apart from the actual screen around the edge of the plastic.

I don't think overheating is a problem because generally, the longer the laptop is on, the less it happens. I left it on for 7 days once, and the problem never occurred after the 3rd day. Then, after it was shut off for several hours, the problem occurred again within a few minutes.

Another thing worth mentioning is that almost always, if left alone, the monitor does not shutoff. 95% of the time it happens when I am typing or clicking, and sometimes it seems like it happens right after I press a key or click the mouse.
