Purchased on ebay a Kfa2 GTX 1070 EX for CUDA compute activities.
Satisfied but recently I noticed the card is shown as Founders Edition in the monitoring systems.
Specs are really near (12Mhz more for the base clock and 25Mhz for the boost clock for the EX), and the exterior is the EX one, just to know if it's simily the monitor unable to distinguish between the two or might I have purchased a smart rebuilt card.

it maybe just a FE edition with a custom heat sink.
Whatever tool your using to ID the card may not have the KFA brand HWID, hence its going by FE.

There is nothing really wrong with FE editions, infact some people prefer them as waterblocks are easier to source for.
Also if your getting faster specs i wouldn't worry about it too much.

As for being rebuilt/refurbished, that i would not be able to tell, and i doubt it if you bought it from an authorized retailer.

Purchased from top rated ebay seller, didn't know it but so far never have had problems with the top rated sellers.
Just since there was this (lower than before but still) crypto frenzy and some undersupply I was wondering if the seller might have found a clever way to transform an available FE in another (a bit more) more expensive card.
Not really a problem for me, the price was right and the card is working fine, just curious if there is a way to check if it's a (really good) fake.

Since I was verifying the source of 3D glitch I found in a realtime 3D app, I noticed the BIOS of this card is

Version 86.04.50.00.CE
Build Date 2016-12-14
Message NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 VGA BIOS V5991

In TechpowerUP DB the most recent BIOS I found is this one

86.04.1E.00.8F
BIOS Build date:2016-06-17 00:00:00
Date added:2016-07-13 18:47:00

so earlier than my current BIOS. I didn't find any BIOS with my 86.04.50.00.CE version.

So I suppose didn't make sense to flash any of these BIOS?

Btw even if GPU-Z show as Subvendor Nvidia the BIOS link correctly identify my card as Kfa2 GTX 1070 EX.
