Monitor seen as "Default Monitor"

I have a Viewsonic G90fb-2 monitor and before whenever my computer would not shut down properly, on boot up my monitor would be seen as a "default monitor". I could fix this by shutting down and unplugging and plugging back i the monitor to my vid card. Yesterday I installed My new 3.7 drivers for Radeon 9600 and since then my monitor stays as default monitor even after turning off, rebooting, and unplugging my monitor numerous times. Going back to the 3.6 drivers I had earlier di also not work. This means I cannot raise the refresh rate above 60Hz. I have downloaded plug n play drivers from the Viewsonic website and it still does not work. Someone help me!

try looking in display properties>settings>advanced>monitor & uncheck hide modes that monitor cannot display!

That was not my problem. I managed to get it working by plugging it into my other comp. I plugged it in and it was detected, plugged it into the cmputer where it was not working before, and it works.

I have had the same thing happen to me off and on. I downloaded the drivers for my monitor so it doesn't have to depend on auto detection. I don't know if you would really call them drivers, it's inf files. As a bonus modes that my monitor doesn't support are hidden.

yeah well mine screwed up again. I ran one lop of 3Dmark03 and when it finished It was stuch at 60Hz. It ws still seen as a G90fb-2 monitor, not as a default monitor as it usually does. After I restarted it though, it went back to being a default monitor. I am getting really pissed off and am thinking about returning it.

Man that really sucks. Mine only did it once in a while, and it was still a pain in the @ss.

Try a new monitor cable before you return it.
