Curious about something

Currently I have a 25" Samsung that can go 1920x1080

If I bought a new PC with a beefy video card would it behove me to buy a monitor that can go 2560x1440 or higher? I mean, would games look that much better than a monitor that can only go 1920x1080??

Gracias

I find they look better, but the right fit for you is a personal opinion matter. I went to 1440 IPS because that can be had for relatively cheaply and work stuff is my primary priority, but you might find it more worthwhile to wait for better g-sync monitors, 4K IPS or something else.

I find 1440 is a nice spot to go to for a large and sharp screen that doesn't need to rely on scaling to be usable, as well as being available for relatively cheap.

Yeah, it'll be sharper. I'd move from 1920x1200 to 2560x1600/1440 if I were in the market for a new screen, though I'm pretty happy with 1920+AA. I'd be more jazzed about the extra desktop real estate than getting rid of jaggies in games.

They are, but it does seem that all of a sudden the monitor market's moving very quickly. So there is an argument for holding on to see what more can be had for the same money in a year's time. And that's a very personal question with no necessarily right answer.

If that Samsung is TN, a 1440p IPS will look fantastic in comparison. Documents and so on will be much more readable. Games will look better but not necessarily by enough to make it worth pulling the trigger now for you.

My Samsung is like 4 years old and I'm on a 4 year gaming PC with an old video card. The new PC will a good enough jump in video quality as is.

Maybe I'll hold off on a new monitor for now.

Thanks!

I'd personally wait for Freesync to show itself, and possibly new G-sync, or improved G-sync monitors. A lot of changes are happening, and we are at the start of a transition.

A higher resolution would be nice, but not required. I'd definitely look to 1440p or higher for your next monitor, but what you have will be passable for now.
