Monitor resolution...too high?

I'm considering buying this Samsung monitor locally for the same price.

My question is about the native resolution of 1600x1200. Makes for a really sharp picture.......but is slightly too small for reading text (for me). I'd would probably have to reduce the resolution, run at a non-native setting. As a guage, I run a 15" monitor at 800x600.

Would it be better to find a monitor of the same quality that has a lower native resolution?

If you have a hard time reading small text yes , find something with a native resolution of no more then 1280 x 1024 .

The pixels can only get shrunken so small, 800x600 is normal for 15" to me, I don't think you would have a problem with 1600x1200 because it's a 20" monitor. That's why it's such a big resolution. If you have no problem looking at a 17" LCD, then I don't think you'd have a problem looking at a 20".

The pixel size is about the same as a 17" LCD, so you can use that as a gauge. I purchased a 19" LCD with larger 0.294mm pixels just because it was easier for me to read, compared to a 17" LCD.

If you want larger pixels, you can get the 21" LCD. I have the 21" Samsung LCD at work, and the pixel size of 0.275 is just about perfect.

A 20" monitor displaying 1600x1200 will produce small text. If you want a 1600x1200 resolution, try to find a 23" monitor. Alternatively, if you want a 20" monitor, try to find one with a 1280x1024 resolution.

Update.....I had this question posted in several forums. Similar response. It seems as though you need to actually try out the monitor at various settings to come to any conclusions for yourself, and your own eyes.

Easier said than done.....The local place that had one available (Sam's Club) did not have it hooked to a computer. I pleaded with a guy there and he hooked it up to the only available computer (lucky break).

Well that particular computer apparently had a video adapter that would not support 1600x1200. It said it would, and indicated as such.....but the display never changed. 1280x1024 looked ok to me....so I bought one.

At home, hooked up to a Radeon 9600, it will display 1600x1200. Too bad....no way I can see text at that resolution. If I increase the font size it might work out, but then the icons on the task bar are way too small.

So it's 1280x1024. And I must say I cannot tell any blurring of the display. I think it will work out. If it doesn't I can easily return it.

FWIW.....Great looking monitor, DVI input also, plus it tilts, swivels, rotates, and can be raised.
