Monitor Resolution problems

Hi friends,

Monitor: Samsung 2493HM
Vid Card: ATI 4870x2
OS: XP SP3

Problem:

I was running normal display // plug and play monitor drivers and everything was smooth. Unfortunately I became foolish and installed the Samsung drivers on offer and now everytime I set the max resolution (1920x1200) it just resets it to 800x600 everytime. I've tried uninstalling it from device manager but windows always takes it upon itself to reinstall the Samsung drivers. I've *also* tried forcing it in CCC and it did work once, however since now the option is greyed out and I cannot select it anymore.

I have also tried reinstalling the ATI drivers but the option is greyed out in the ATI settings still.

If anyone can save me and my ineptness I will be deeply grateful.

Cheers,

PS: Also apologies for posting it in the incorrect thread previously.

You need to uninstall the drivers and go into the registry and find where the driver information is there and delete the entry. Its that registry entry that is telling windows where the drivers are so they can be reinstalled. Drive cleaner may be able to help clean out those drivers. Remeber to do all of this from Safe mode.

I would boot to the safe mode command promt and then type in the following command

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Then follow the prompts to rollback to a previous version of XP

If you "Uninstall" the driver for the Samsung in Device Manager, it should offer you the opportunity to delete the driver, too.

Right-click on the monitor in Device Manager, go to the "Driver" tab, and click on "Uninstall". That's supposed to uninstall the driver and (usually) offer the option to DELETE the driver.

Another option might be to "Update Driver Software", then choose "Browse my computer for driver software", then "Let me pick form a list of device drivers on my computer". Then choose the "Generic PnP Monitor".
