I run my monitor at the resolution of 1600x1200. And in the advanced area of display properties, when I check "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" the maximum refresh rate selectable is 70hz. When I uncheck it, though, I can select 85hz. I tried it and it seems to work fine. Is this going to be bad for my monitor?

sometimes you can select it but it does not actually change anything, open up the monitors On Screen Display, in there it will tell you what its really running at when you think you set it to 85Hz

i 'overclocked' my poor LG hisync monitor i got back in 97. after about 4 years of usage, it started giving off an annoying, very high pitch whining. later i was told that is a warning sign the tube may physically blow up. didnt happen all the time, but got me scared enough to back down to recommended frequency level. i guess i havnt learned my lesson there, at it again overclocking my vx-1120 to 1280*960@100hz :D
