I currently use a 19 inch Viewsonic CRT monitor and its great (85Hz refreash rate at 1280 X 1024) but would like to switch to an lcd. I tried a few Lcds in the past and have not been the least bit impressed. I have tried the samsung 930b and I most recently, bought and returned the Dell 1907FP. I found the colors to be washed out, the screen super bright and the blacks did not look good at all. I did use the DVI cable. I think these were 6-bit panels. I will use my monitor mostly for movie watching, gaming and everyday use. Color fidelity is important and I do not want any ghosting while playing games. I guess I would need an 8-bit monitor, I am looking for a 19 inch lcd monitor, any suggestions.

Any other recommendations

Yes the backlight bleeds. (it's call the X-light problem? not sure) I have that monitor and I don't think it's been resolved, but it really doesn't have too.
You don't notice it. And when you do the screen has to be black and you have to look for it.

If your that picky about what you want in a LCD, I'd say get the VP930b.

That's my concern, that I will notice considering I am fussy about such things. I have a back wallpaper that I love and haven't changed in a years time. Also, my fear is that when i watch widescreen movies and play dark games like FEAR and Doom, it will be an issue. Judging by the picture I posted, it's blanantly obvious, and something like that would bother me. I will try to find one in a local store so that I can see it and play with settings.

Anything else you can recommend ? I would like to make an informed decision since I haven't had good luck with lcds thus far.

Thanks.

With todays LCD's, especially 19 inch, you're gonna have to compromise somewhere, The Viewsonic is pretty close to the sweetspot for gaming. You will notice the backlight bleeding but I think the pic in you're link is a little exaggerated. If you haven't allready you might want to check the LCD guide sticky, lots of good info there
