Hi all, I'm looking for a new monitor that preferably has all of these features:

19" CRT
black casing
1280 x 1024 @ 85hz +

I'm getting rid of my viewsonic g90f because it's image quality is terrible. Sadly I've only had it a week and am going to incur quite a lot of cost to get rid of it, but in my mind it's picture quality is bad enough to make it worthwhile.

I really don't want to make this mistake again, and I'm looking for a screen at around the $300 price point.

The only one I've really looked at in detail so far (well online anyway) is the LaCie blue 19 iv screen. This is around $308 at the cheapest and sounds pretty nice.

Any opinions would be much appreciated, thanks.

I'm really happy with my 19" Samsung SyncMaster DynaFlat 997DF. It's black/grey, and pretty sweet looking for a CRT, imho.

I have the Dell M992 and I do NOT recommend it. It's an Ok monitor, but there are better monitors for the price. I suggest a Viewsonic G90fb. It's a shadow mask vice AG which is a plus for me.

Samsung 990DF seems to be quite good, it has .20 dot pitch, which sounds pretty good.

Slightly concerning is that it's about $40-$50 cheaper than the viewsonic one I'm sending back...

Anyone have one of these?

Thanks for the opinions so far :)

Dude I've bought Dell 1905FP LCD's for $384 shipped. Why bother with a CRT? I've purchased almost a 100 of Dells' 19" LCD over the last 2 years, only one has had trouble.

Dude, I'd appreciate a link on that price. OTOH, CRTs are still better for saturation and gaming. With so many people tradin in CRTs the refurb-market is a deal.

Me too.

Also consider NEC Diamondtrons.

Check out gotapex.com and slickdeals.net, Just about every week they go on sale. I thought I saw them in the $370's last week.

Thanks again guys, the samsung is actually looking quite promising.

I don't see a lot of difference between the 997DF and the 990DF, except the 990 is totally black vs black/silver.

It says the 997 has "Magictune" and "Natural color pro" whatever those mean. There's a $20 difference in price (the 997 being more expensive).

I don't want an LCD, although nice I think I'll get a much better CRT for the money I'm looking to spend, and I use this system for graphic design & gaming, so a CRT is best for my needs I think. Thanks for the info though on the LCD's :)

I considered the p95f, but I've read several reports of it having blur problems (which is exactly what my g90f has now, hence the reason for needing a new monitor). Although I've been impressed with past viewsonic monitors, I think I'll steer clear of them this time around just in case.

A couple of questions for you folks with the 997DF samsung monitors:

Do you notice horizontal lines across the screen when looking at a solid block of color?
Can this screen run above 75hz at 1280 x 1024? (I have seen that it can't, wanted to verify)
Does the bottom edge of the screen bow upwards slightly, making the windows taskbar look slightly bowed?

thanks for any info on this one.

Although I originally didn't want an LCD, I've seen that newegg are doing a samsung 710n-2 17" lcd for well within my budget right now..

It's a 17" LCD, 12ms response, has 300cd/m2 brightness rating, and 600:1 contrast ratio.

I really haven't had much use with these LCD screens, I wanted an CRT because of what people have told me.

Any opinions on this screen and how it may compare to a CRT for what I'm using it for? Graphic/web design, and gaming primarily.
