Monitor Rec for Console Gaming

Hello All,

I'm looking to refresh my home office. I currently have an Asus VN247H-P for my gaming monitor and then a 24" Viewsonic monitor for an additional display for my laptop.

I'm looking to upgrade to a 3 24" setup or a 3 27" setup but wanting to understand if it really is worth paying the extra money for these higher resolution monitors.

My understanding is that I don't need these high res, 144hz monitors because I don't game on PC, nor plan to, and I only game on my XB1.

Should I even look at these higher end monitors, or stick with the standard 1900x1080 monitors for my gaming and home office?

24" or 27" recommendations are appreciated!

stick with 1080p monitors and don't pay extra for 144hz. your console gaming will be at BEST 1080p 60hz and more commonly 720p and or 30hz

Thanks for the reply!

Do you think I should go for 27" monitors? Again, I'm using it for gaming and productivity (home office) and from what I've heard, people say a 27" monitor at 1080p gives poor quality.

Any recommendations for monitors?

I would agree that sitting at normal desktop distances that 1080p on 27 you will see the individual pixels too much.

I wouldn't go higher than 24inch for a 1080p screen.

not sure on your budget but i would grab a nice 24 1080p IPS Dell Ultrasharp

If it is a 27" I'm looking to spend $300 a monitor. If I'm staying with 24", then why not just buy 2 more Asus VN247H-P monitors to match my current gaming one? I think they are around $170 each.

Sure......its console gaming - gonna suck balls no matter what screen you choose 😀

if you go with a 27 itll need to be 1080p. the consoles wont scale to 1440p correctly so you will either be stretched or windowed

So I went to Fry's today to pick up two more VN247H-P but then I got sucked in to looking at other monitors. I kept getting drawn to the 27" monitors and just trying to figure out if I should go with 3 27" monitors for the reason that I'm using my setup for gaming and productivity. The extra screen space seems to be a nice upgrade.

Few questions:

1. If I were to buy a monitor that supports greater than 1920x1080, am I able to set the gaming monitor to 1920x1080 resolution so the xbox gaming won't look stretched?
2. Is there going to be a big difference in 1ms vs 2-5ms response times on the monitor? Right now, my VN247H-P is a 1ms response time but there looks to be some good 27" options but they range from 2 - 5ms response.

Appreciate all the help!
