Monitor Radeon 9500/9700 temps?

I have a Radeon 9500->9700. Is there anyway to monitor the core and memory temps with something like motherboard monitor? I'd like to keep an eye on that as I increase the core and mem speed. Also, what are some temps that I should keep it under?

As fas as I know, there aren't any temp sensors built in for the 9500/9700 series. You'd probably just have to stick a temp sensor to the ram chips and the core of you can get to it. You might have to remove the shim to get access to the core with a heatsink on tho...or you can stick the temp sensor to the heatsink.

if you're feeling adventurous, do what Anand did in his prescott/a64/northwood temp comparison. drill a hole in the heatsink as close as possible to the center of the core and stick a temp probe in there.
