monitor question related to gaming

I've just bought a new computer, and i'm looking for a monitor to go with it, I got a core 2 duo e8500 3.12ghz, 1gb geforce gtx280, 4gb ddr2 800mhz pc6400 used mostly for gaming.

my question is, will I notice a big difference in the sharpness and looks of the games I play running a 22" with a native res of 1680x1050 as opposed to a 24" @ 1920x1200, or will it basically look the same because of the smaller screen?

i'm also afraid that if I get the 24" my gfx card would become outdated much faster, because I would like to run games at the native resolution, so any thoughts from people that have perhaps seen both in action?

the models I've been looking at are samsung 2253bw, or the samsung 2443bw (but i'm open to other options, I dont know a lot about monitors, and these may suck for gaming)

any other advice regarding a 22 vs 24, or these monitors i'm looking at, would be appreciated also

It depends on how discerning you think your eyes are, and what you're used to on previous computers and TVs. Most people will be hard pressed to tell much difference between the two.

Samsung is pretty high quality as a brand. Check the LCD sticky at the top of the Video Cards and Graphics forum for more suggestions.

I'd go for the 1680*1050, not just so I can play newer games at reasonable settings at native res, but because 24" is just a little too big for the distance at which I sit from my monitor. I don't want to have to turn my head to see all of the screen 😛.

For the most part 24" and 22" monitors are made with different types of panels which affects their respective color quality, refresh rates, etc. I would look into that as well before you make your decision.
