I actually have both of these monitors in dual screen, recently getting the U2412. When I look at the colors, they are both completely off even when I set identical temperatures and color settings. I don't have color calibration equipment or software so I'm wondering which would you think is more accurate. I'm starting to do a little more Photoshopping and I'd prefer to use the monitor which has more accurate colors.

Do any of you have any recommendations as to which might be more accurate?

Thanks,

DD

Edit: The Dell seems to have a more pleasing image. It appears a little bluer than the HP. The HP looks a bit greenish to me. I don't know if it's because the HP is a few years old.

Every panel is different and even two of the same monitors will require different settings to be calibrated. You are not even using two of the same types of panels so it is no surprise they look different at the same settings.

I doubt you will ever really know what is accurate and what isn't without calibrating. I don[t think either panel is considered a high end super accurate display anyways being that they are e-IPS.

I guess the best you can probably get away with is using some of the profiles others have found by calibrating.

Thanks! I'll check out the site. Both monitors look nice but I was wondering if one was better than another when it comes to color.

Hey Doddiedog,

I had a question for you..hope you can help or give me advice.

I bought the HP ZR24W a while ago...but was thinking of selling it and getting the Dell U2412...but I'm not sure...

Which do you like better overall? Which is better for gaming? Which has better image quality? And which has less AG coating?

Sorry for the questions...but just really need to know..and your the only person that I found on the net that has both monitors side by side.

Protip:

Calibrate to the prints you will get.
Order a calibration print from your local photo printer (at worst you cook your own, by setting up some RBG/CMYK patches, as well as a gray scale) ad then set up each monitor manually, so that it matches as closely as possible the print.
One monitor will probably match more closely than the other (I don't think either one will match very well at all, so be prepared to make tough choices), and you just use that one.

If you don't print your photos - don't bother setting up the screens. Everyone else's screens will be just as mad, so it's pointless to work with anything but the actual pixel values.
