Monitor problems: WTF is this?!?!?!

OK, so I'm supposed to install a new workstation for a new employee. No problem, I have done that more times that I can count. I have always used a same monitor for that job (Compaq V900 that's sitting next to me). So I plug in the monitor in to the workstation and boot it up... No pic on the monitor. Only text that is visible is "DPMS going in to off mode". I shut down the machine and remove the monitor-cable. The monitor complains "check video-cable". I plug it back in, and the text disappears. I boot the machine again, and again it says "DPMS going in to off mode". At that point I assumed it's a problem with the workstation, so I tried different machine (same model). Didn't work, same problem. I tried third machine (same model), didn't work, same problem. I then tried fourth machine (different model) and it worked like a charm. Then I tried the original machine... Didn't work.

I then tried replacing the monitor to an identical one... Again, didn't work on any of the three machines (except on the fourth machine of different model). I then tried a third monitor: an old monitor with no power-saving features. It too didn't work (except on the one machine).

WTF is this? I have used this monitor to install several of this kind of machines! And all of the sudden it wont work on any machine of this particular model (and it has worked in the past)! Not only that, but none of the monitors seem to work on these particular machines!! What on earth is going on????

Problem solved. It seems that each and every one of the computers I tried didn't have any RAM in 'em! What are the odds for that 😕?
