Hey guys, When I play 3d games my monitor starts to shake, the display shakes. The 2d works fine in windows, but the bios screen shakes, and warcraft III and counterstrike shakes. When I try and set my refresh rate above 60 Hz my 2D shakes too, does this have something to do with my 3d shaking? This has never happened before. I just moved my computer to my new apartment and it started happening.

I really dont think the monitor is broken though, I can watch movies and use Windows with out ANY shaking, except when I set the refresh rate above 60 Hz. I dunno what is going on, I used to play Warcraft III a shitload at my house fine, but ever since I moved into my apartment at college its been screwed up.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks

yep, sounds like youre getting some interference. try moving it another part of the room, or another room altogether and see if it stops.

Asrial why would the direction matter?

Earth's magnetic field runs north/south. I don't have a full handle on it, just something I discovered from the troubleshooting procedures of my current job.

Quick, search around the room for any sources of magnets or anything that is unshielded. Make sure your monitor is NOT next to another monitor or TV. Last, ensure that your room is not next to an electrical circuit breaker main, transformer or anything else (outside the wall of your room closest to the monitor).

Within a short time your monitor will fail if you do not find the source of the electromagnetic field. The earth field is not the cause, but some other man-made field is nearby and strong enough to cause problems with your monitor.

It could even be a flourescent light fixture within a couple of feet of your monitor or even speakers near your monitor.

It turns out that there is a power thing right outside my bedroom that I believe is the cause. I dunno what it really is, but it looks like something that electricians use to measure power usage. It is large and has many circles on it with readings for many apartments. It is outside my bedroom which sucks. If I move my computer pretty far away it still shakes, but not as much. When I move it right outside my bathroom it works fine. Odd. Is this some sort of health risk to me? Why is it coming inside my walls so strongly. Can I do something to fix this or am I just doomed to never being able to use my computer in my apartment again? I have no other place to move it because our living room is full and my roommate wouldnt appreciate a computer next to the bathroom.

Any suggestions/advice would be much appricated.

Thanks,
Sav

i read once that putting chicken wire around your monitor would keep other waves from coming in. Such as in a microwave. In the window there is a fence like structure of tiny interconnecting metal beams, if these weren't there, apparently by staring into the microwave you would go blind. This also helps to keep the radiation from leaving the microwave. What do others think? Is that total BS or does it hold some water?

Sounds like that device is the voltage meter for a number of apartments.

Dangerous to humans? I dunno. I'd ask your apartment complex and/or the electric company.

As for affecting the monitor, it could very well be the energy it's drawing in (keep in mind that I don't know how it works) that's doing it.

Is your monitor an older monitor? It might not have proper shielding that new monitors have these days.

Is relocating your computer system an option?

bump for help,

I have tried moving the Monitor across my room, but my room is so so tiny, that it didnt improve much.

ITs a fairly recent monitor, Viewsonic E790, never had this problem before.

Thanks,
Sav
