Monitor \ Panel Hunting - From Stone age too...??

Hey everyone,

I'm gearing up to begin a monitor hunt.
Albeit based in EU(Scandinavia more precise) - where we have tons of different taxes that do us good in the rear - the prices generally seem to scale according to US market.

So 2 expensive top end competing samepriceish monitors - are also expensive for me (albeit with 100% increase in price or more ).
Normally not that many disparities between high end products they're the same level + our added tax\market hell.

Anyhow, i'm currently on a SyncMaster T200.
Old as hell, 1680x1050.

Basicly, i'd like a quick overview of what's availeble and what people recommend for gaming.

Is my current understanding correct:

IPS Panels: expensive, but high quality colours\screen - does not come in 120hz? Comes in 19x10 + 19x12 + 25x14/16
TN Panels: Less expensive, but comes with 120 hz(MOAR FPS) versions, 19x10 + 19x12 + 25x14/16.

Now to the questions:

24 inch vs 27 inch - what matters here? is it subjective? is it worth getting a 19x monitor on 27inch contra 24?

IPS vs TN - 120 fps or IPS panel? I personally hate the "ripped screen" feeling you get in shooters when moving around fast - so i assume 120 fps is optimal path.
Unless the general consensus be'eth IPS quality is just epeen epic.

what about 25x? does 1440 feel much inferrior to 1600?

Please recommend and link models evne to US shops.
So i can get a product number and track shit down in my market :).

Price is an issue, so i'd probably skimp on certain areas.
(a 25x14 screen is 1000 USD, a 25x16 is 1475ish - so yes i'll need to feel uber convinced to off that much on a monitor)

Do the highend 25x screens also come with 120 fps?

Yea, i don't know.

Some suggestions :D

I think I'll be sticking to PVA panels for the time being, as they are somewhat of a compromise between IPS and TN. Sadly, they're not longer cheaper than IPS, as they used to be, so they also become rarer.
Eizo is the only one making them in 24" size, and only up to that size.
On the other hand, I see that they're not as expensive as I expected.
One model is less than 600 Euros, another more recent one less than a thousand.
On the flipside, you get a fast PVA panel with good color accuracy, little ghosting, no glitter, no glare, and the whole Eizo shebang: Great warranty, great lighting uniformity, great factory calibration, etc, etc...
They also used to have a 27" 1920x1200 PVA model, but that got replaced by a model based on the ubiquitous 2560x1440 IPS panel.

There are no 120Hz screens at resolutions above 1920x1200 as far as I can tell.

With v-sync enabled, you won't get any tearing though. Only issue is bad implementations that make for sluggish input.

I won't touch another TN panel, because the viewing angles are just absurdly tight on most of them. Plus, most of the time the rest of the display is also bargain bin, so you get a shitty stand, uneven LED lighting, absent calibration etc.
Looking how screens last about 5-8 years, I'd be careful to calculate the total cost over time of the screen.

Go check out the Korean 27" IPS 2560x1440 on eBay. Great monitors for the price.

They don't include 120 fps?
The yamasaki\catleap ones i assume.

No one has any good 19x12 120 fps, they'd like to recommend?

Every 120hz monitor is going to be a TN piece of crap with awful color and bad viewing angle. What use is high framerate if the game looks like garbage? Forget 120hz and buy an IPS screen.

Without many examples, ive looked at the catleaps.

they do seem cheap even barring a customs\vat tax for my territory atleast for 25x14.

Still no good 120hz tn 19x12 youd recommend anyone?

You can get 120Hz 2560x1440 Catleaps. They cost more...and it looks like people are overclocking them as well. I havent looked into it all that much, but here is a site you get you started if you are interested:
