The spec of my rig are

cpu- i5 2500
gpu- Gtx 570 MSI twinfrozr ii
monitor- 17" viewsonic
psu- CM 550w GX series 12v bronze
motherboard- Asus P8h61M-LE
Case- CM ii Nvidia Ed.

Should i upgrade monitor by getting the 24" Asus vg248qe 3d support
OR
Sell my card for about $ 200 in my country and get the GTX 770 for $400 and buy the monitor later

Oh yea the value of the card (570) will depriciate day by day as it will become more outdated so the earlier it can be sold the more money saved.

That asus monitor supports 144 hz so I need a more powerful card esp when games like gta 5 and bf4 are about to get released in a few months or so.

Advice / opnions ....

and you can still game just fine at 1920x1080 with a gtx570 if you use a little common sense.

and you dont need to have insanely high fps to see the benefits of a 144hz screen. games will look smoother and less blurry and you will also have much less noticeable tearing.

Personally, the monitor would be the first on my list; your screen (no offense) is pretty ancient. My personal opinion is that the monitor is at least 75% of the experience so even if you have a killer GPU, the monitor is short-changing the experience.

Have you thought about perhaps a 760 with the monitor? Perhaps you can upgrade both simultaneously..or you could use the 570. The 570 isn't awful at 1080p, it should run things fine (with some settings lowered in super-demanding games) until you can get a new GPU.

OR, you could get a 7970ghz edition AND a non 3D monitor for a low price and get both now. I have 3D and I find it unappealing for gaming. As far as the 120-144hz goes, you need extreme CPU and GPU power to get those kind of frame rates. Might be worth it to upgrade monitor to standard 60hz and save a ton of cash. 60hz will be a better match for a single GPU anyway.

AGAIN you dont have to match or exceed 144/120 on those screens to get benefits. and even the fastest setups will never maintain 144 fps or more the whole time in every game. I really wish people would stop saying you need 120/144 for a 120/144 screen as its silly.

I can see both sides of the coin. You don't need max framerate, but if you're using lightboost it certainly helps with the perceptible smoothness.

well its beneficial for gaming in every way over the 60hz screens is my point though. to not get a 120/144hz screen because you cant get a 120/144 fps is stupid.

Thanks guys for all your advices !

Yes I know the screen is pretty anicent , and its really silly of using a 770 on it.
The reason why I asked if I should buy the card first was to save couple of bucks for the monitor itself without losing the extra 50-80 $ I could earn right now.
If I buy the monitor now then ill be able to get the 770 within a year or so and by that time I will have a hard time selling the 570 with a much lower price tag.
And I had made my mind a long time ago tht 120 hz monitor will be my final choice as I want to experience its sensational smoothness in general / gaming use.

Yes , the misconception that people have is pretty silly of 120 / 144 gpu for
availing benefit of the 120/144 hz but I do think that you need ATLEAST 60+
fps to see a significant change.

Anyways I think that I should just get the monitor first and ignore the oppurtunity cost of those 50-80 $ benefit I could avail now .

even 40 fps will look and feel much better on on 144/120 hz screen. I doubt the 570 will go down much more in price. a year from now you will want something better than a 770 anyway as we will have 20nm gpus by then.

Hey, people make fun of me and I have a much bigger screen than you! Mine is a Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW 22" 60Htz 1680x1050. I just don't need a bigger monitor. I've had mine for 5 years and it displays like it did the 1st day so make sure you get at least a 24" 1920x1080 120Htz SAMSUNG LED monitor.

Been on the fence about maybe considering dropping my gaming resolution down to 1600x900 with a 20'',love my u2412m and my gtx650 non ti but at 1200p it is lackluster and a dual monitor set up running a $120 20'' would be a cheaper option then buying a whole new card at $150+.🙂

Heck in BF3 i gain up to 13 fps higher average dropping my resolution down from 1200p to 1680x1050 and gain almost another 7 fps dropping it to 1600x900 and considering all my other games run like a dream on this card at 1200p......

how about using some common sense and lower the settings at 1920? its stupid to lower the res or go out and buy a smaller monitor when all you have to do is lower some settings.

I vote monitor, the 570 is still a real competent card. Don't get too obsessed about frames per second. My life became much simpler when I realized I can appreciate a game for how it looks & plays than benchmarks.
Keep in mind that the 570 is depreciating every day however what ever you are thinking about replacing it with is depreciating at a faster rate.

1200p and the card will do low, problem is i don't care for the framerate and thats with all options off period just plain low,1600x900 is the sweet spot where i could even go medium with a little ssao but between how awful it looks and the fact its a 16:9 aspect ratio....

Found myself going to war in the game menu between having to put up with crap framerate at 1200p or lowering it all the way down to 1440x900 having it just look like crap just to get anywhere with performance.

At the point of honestly not wanting to put much more money into pc parts as a interest in pc gaming for me has dwindled...at the point of if someone gave me $225 for this monitor,i would buy a $120 20'',be content with it and pocket the extra $100 for a rainy day.

I was mainly talking in general and did not really pay attention that you had a non ti 650 which in that case means you will have to lower the res in many cases.

Very much agreed, I don't know why some have a mindset that every setting has to be maxed. Most games can get a huge performance jump by lowering just 2-3 settings and the games will look exactly the same...it isn't a big deal.

I aim for 50+ minimums and for that card,i have to go to 1600x900 low just to get there.

I typically like 60+ fps but wow i would have to go all the way down to 1280x800 just to get there.

I wanna hook up like a 42'' t.v soon anyways and if possible run something like a 20'' monitor for the gaming while watching my movies, hulu and netflix and youtube off the t.v if that's possible as my tower has become something of a htpc.

I did that in gta 4 when I had a 9500gt and a core 2 duo processor 😛
lowered settings to low-med but kept resl at 1440x900

As ive already metioned in my first post above , I'd like to get the Asus vg248qe 144hz lightboost 3d vision 2 tech. Extremely reasonable price
for $280 though the colors would require some adjustment as they arent
good out of the box .

What do you think guys... ? Just see the 5/5 ratings of that monitor !

lol ouch. that game is not too demanding on lower settings but on max settings, GTA 4 cannot maintain 60 fps on even the fastest pc in the world. the optimization is so poor that I will drop down into the 40s and 30s at times even with my pc. those spots are cpu limited though and shadows are the culprit. turning shadows completely off is the only way to stay above 60 and even that still requires an oced i5. but yeah as you can see just playing around with one setting can make a massive difference in framerate.
