Thanks for the replies. I have been looking at the XIOD (Samsung UK) monitor and it is decent looking. Others are LG and Hansol. Have you made a decision yet BoomAM?

You guys should consider 19'' CRT's for gaming. Its a huge difference over 17'', and given the current prices of CRTs, you wouldn't be paying vastly more in price from even a year ago. Also, 19'' tend to have much smaller footprints than the monstrous 20''+ CRTs, and there are newer 19'' that make a conscious effort to keep their footprint small. 19'' are particularly important for FPS games, but it also makes a huge difference in games where you can up the resolution and see more (RTS games) and even in daily applications like your windows desktop, web browsing, typing papers, working in spreadsheets, etc. Just go into a store (not to buy, but to compare) and its cleary obvious. I've always been of the opinion that you should never skimp on your monitor, since that is the only part of your computer/upgrading that you ever SEE while you are using your computer. No point in spending tons of cash on a nice video card, cpu, etc when all you are doing is cheating your eyes of the experience.

I know you asked about 17" but another good option in my opinion is the samsung 19" Syncmaster 955DF. It's a flat screen CRT that goes for as low as $190 (pricegrabber.com). Remember, monitors aren't things you buy every day, so when you go out to buy one, try and get the largest screen size and best quality possible. I think the 955DF fits that description quite well.

Thanks for the opinions. I was wondering if the 19" was worth the extra $$ and then I came across a XIOD (Samsung UK) 19" EZ-Flat for £129+vat. Whereas, the 17" is £99.99+vat. Not too much difference in price.
