im planning on buying one of these monitors.. the NEC is about $5 more where ill be buying them.. I'm not too up on monitors though, so im looking for some opinions..

the nec is a 17", and tops out at 1280x1024, 66hz, with 0.24-0.28mm variable dot pitch / 0.20-0.25 mm horizontal according to their site..

the aoc is a 17", and does 1280x1024, but only at 60hz (this is worse, right?) .. but it has 21mm dp(H), 0.25mm dp(D), according to aocs site..

so which is better? i plan to run whichever one i get at 1280x1024.. i know that a smaller dot pitch is better, but is a difference that small noticable? im leaning more towards the nec..

thanks

If you "plan" to use them at 1280x1024, I wouldn't recommend either. That low refresh rate will kill your eyes. :p How much are they? Try a Phillips Brilliance Monitor. 17" with .21 dot pitch, 1600x1200 @ 72Hz (flatscreen I might add) for about $200 at BB.

im running at 60hz right now on my 15" and it doesnt bother me .. plus i don't have enough for a higher quality monitor (or id get a 19" or something, or at least one that does 1600x1200 ..) the aoc is $239 and the nec is $245 (canadian)

aoc is generic junk, for just few bucks difference, of course buy the nec.
if it's at least US$30 difference, you may consider the aoc.

well, in defense of aoc, i own one now, so does my brother and my mom (as well as several friends) and none of us have any problems to speak of.. even though my aoc 5e was the cheapest monitor at the place its much higher quality than the craptastic certified data monitor my brother paid $50 more for a few months earlier.. soo cheapest price doesnt nessecarily mean generic crap :)

thanks for the replies though :)

i have a NEC As 90 and a AOC Spectrum 7glr, and let me tell you the NEC is MUCH clearer than my AOC. If it's withint 20-30 bux different, go with the NEC.

pamf, check out dfsdirect.ca and factorydirect.ca, both carry off-lease refurbs.

A 19" will be well within your price range, 21" not much more.

Just received a Dell P1110 flat Trinitron 21", less than 2 years old for 400 loonies!
That's one dollar per square inch of real estate!

As the screen area gets bigger 15? ? 17? flicker becomes more apparent, because it is your peripheral vision is more sensitive to flicker.

What's that old financial adage about you can't go wrong buying real estate?

<< cheapest price doesnt nessecarily mean generic crap >>

This applies to NEC AS..F series comparing to NEC FE/FP series or Sony G/F series or Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Eizo, etc. I don't agree using that on AOC comparing to NEC.

It's good for you that you're satisfied with AOC, but for just $5 difference, you really should buy NEC this time, you may not want to return to something else next time.
