monitor only displays half of screen...fried???

i have a 17'' Proview (CRT) monitor that is about 3 yrs old. in the past few days, the monitor flashed and displayed only the bottom half of the screen. there is a bright banded line running through the middle of the screen and nothing else above it (all black). but within a few minutes it would flicker and show the entire screen again. today, however, i turned on my monitor and it only displayed the bottom half of the screen. tried on another computer and no success either. seems weird since i thought monitors last for awhile. does anyone know what happened to my monitor and if it can be fixed
