Monitor not displaying correctly

Well this is interesting. I got a second monitor today, a dell p991 19" to go along with my already current p991. Now my older p991 shows the correct display colors and is sharp etc. . .its basically 'normal' blacks are black etc.

So, when i put my new monitor up to it and compare the two using dual display, the new monitor is much brighter and does not show colors accuratly. I am not a dummy when it comes to this stuff, and i have tweaked and modified the heck out of the new monitor to make the colors appropriate. The monitor itself is showing black as a purple color. For example when the standard windows XP screen saver comes up, it shows the background as a purple(dark) where as my other one shows it as being perfect black.

So. . .

anyone have thoughts about if there might be a gun defect in the monitor? Or if there are any other issues that might exsist?

Thanks,

-Steve

Yes. I have even tried it on different computers. It still does the same. With or without dual display on/active/exabled. So i am still stumped.

well crap. . .

hmm, i could send it back. It would cost me shipping though. and its soooo heavy. . .but the color deff is not right.

what do you think? Send it back?

-Steve

I may not send it back, but use it on my other computer where color is not an issue, then get a new 19". Can anyone recomend a 19" flat screen that is around 180 bucks? or less? I mean i payed 150 for this 19" but it seems to be busted, so. . .

it would be cheaper just to send it back even though the postage may cost a lot 😀 phone them up maybe they can pick it up or something or even moan and they might pay for the postage 😛 (that is if you moan enough 😛)

Well, i am going to send it back, i pay for shipping, none the less they said they would get another one and send to me (working one). Now my thoughts are, and of which i wrote in the email, where are they comming from? since they are used. I mean, the p991 is not the best monitor, but i know that it serves my purpose for what i do, since i have had one for a year with no problems so far. I would like to get a matching one, since I am not one that is open for selling my monitors, shipping, etc, and getting two new ones. Its just to expensive for me. I was pricing two viewsonics that i would like to have, and they came in around 520 bucks for two 19" + 60 for shipping for the both of them, this was on newegg. I do not want to spend that kind of money, since i would get 150 back from this monitor, and sell mine now for something like 130ish. Thats only 280. . .HALF of the 520. So i would loose money big time. Albeit two new monitors would be fairly nice 🙂

if you are having no problems with existing monitor why change ?

may as well save up and when the time comes then buy two new ones 😀

You are quite correct. Well i guess i am left with packaging up this one, and sending it back. now, there is a computer show comming up that i can get a 19" p991 at for 179+tax. That is fine, and was my original plan. If i send this one back, they company said they would look for another one to replace it, which seems reasonable, but. . .my fear is that these are all comming from a steel mill or somewhere not good, hence why this one is on the fritz with the guns.

when it comes to monitors i allways say buy new never 2nd hand (unless you buy from somewhere you know it was well looked after) good look with finding a replacement
