Hi

I have an interesting question - at least I think it is interesting. I have just built a bunch of computers (1.2 T-birds, DFI AK76, 128 MB Ram, 30 G WD hard drives, Rage 128 Pro vid and older Gateway monitor). Every once in a while, the monitor on one computer loses signal from the PC. Reboot solves the problem. This has also happened on my old P433, but hasn't in the last little while.

I have looked around, but haven't been able to find an answer as to why this might be happening. Anyone got an idea?

Could be several things . . . all fairly easy to isolate.

The first thing I would try would be a different monitor cable. That can eliminate a bad cable connector.

If that didn't work, I would try a different monitor . . . a swap. If it happens still, then you might be looking at a video card that is being stressed out . . . try a lower refresh rate.

If it keeps happening with those chganges, then swap the video card. If that cures it, you can almost be sure it is the video card.

Keep a record of all swaps and note the effects. That's what "field diagnostics" are all about - isolating the fault.
