monitor issues

I bought a Dell P991 a year ago, it's been a great monitor but as of late I've been having lots of problems with it. I've been using it an a personally built computer with an MSI GF2 Pro, and I set it at 1152*864 resolution with 85 hz refresh rate. Anyway, the picture on the monitor has noticeable flickers which now seem to come up every second I do anything. It is an especially big problem when I'm scrolling and using my mouse wheel, and often results in heavy ghosting when I scroll back and forth at a high rate? I'm totally clueless about how to troubleshoot monitors and I think one of the manual's suggestions was to reset my monitor, but I don't know what this involves. Is my monitor dying or do I just need to mess with some setting to get it working normal again?

bump, im also noticing every once in a while im getting some hard crashes, so maybe its not necessarily just the monitor, though the monitor still appears to be problematic... any ideas would be great.

thanks
