I have an old 19" crt monitor and right now I have the brightness and constrast cranked to the maximum. Even with that, I need to use my nvidia settings to push my gamma up to 3.81. This older computer is using a gf4 ti4600. For images/graphics that are suppose to be dark, it is VERY dark, while things that are light color become too bright. Like right now, I have a semi-dark wallpaper and most of it is almost black. But for my browser windows, it is way too bright. Is my monitor dead? I figure if it was dead, it wouldnt be able to be so bright. Whats with this huge difference in brightness and darkness I'm having?

Try a different monitor that is known to be good. If that monitor shows fine, then yes your 19" is bad. I suspect it is anyway based on your description. When CRTs go bad, the display can show all kinds of weird contrast stuff.
