Ok, this monitor is a 3 year old 17" MagView, so it isnt that great to start with. But it is horribly dark. So dark that you can barely make out pictures on webpages and the like. Also, it is sometimes hard to read text on webpages if the contrast between text and background isnt great. THe brightness and constrast on the monitor itself is maxed and when i go into display settings and turn the contrast up the screen gets washed out. ANy suggestions on how to set this thing to at least partially fix the problem?
thanks,

i guess it would depend on ur video card, but get the latest drivers, i know that nvidia has nview, and u should be able to adjust the gamma, not sure about the ati cards though, u would have to find that out for yourself

My friend has the same problem with his old 19" Dell monitor... he used Powerstrip and it lightens things up... but it can only fix it so much. It may be time for a new monitor.

I also have an old Mag. Not sure how old, but it's a 14". I have the same problem. It runs Linux, and if you're in the command line you have to know exactly what you're doing because you can't read the white text on the black background.

dont know how safe it is but i had an old packard bell that could only go to 800x600 but it was dark like you said.

i opened it up and on the back of the board there are usually 3 knobs to adjust brightness, sharpness and contrast i believe. i turned up the brightness a little and its worked fine ever since.
