Monitor is messed up

No better way to explain it than my monitor is screwed up somehow. Last night, I was playing Stalker Clear Sky and had no problems. I even checked Anandtech before I got off. Well today after I got off work, I got on my computer only to find my monitor severely screwy.

The best I can describe it as, is the colors are not blended together as they should be, light blue, like the bars on this website, appear fuzzy (like a snow channel on TV), the Vista background when I log in was multicolored, my background looked "blocky" as opposed to one solid color/blended colors, and it appears that none of the settings on the monitor panel fix this problem.

I have already checked into a possible GPU malfunction, but that is running fine. Quite frankly, I am at a loss here. Just trying to post this is giving me a headache trying to look through the unfocused (almost a different refresh rate), high-contrasted background.

Any information on this is greatly appreciated.

I checked it and the resolution and color settings are the same as they always have been.

I started Stalker back up to see if it was my PC, or my monitor that was screwed up. Sure enough, the colors were not blended just as they were on my background. However, after I played it for a little bit, it cleared up. Everything is back to normal, but the moment I exited the game, the monitor flickered back to what it was and then back to normal.

It seems my monitor might be defective and might need replacing, but I am unsure. If someone knows what is going on with it, or has had a similar experience with LCD panels, it would help me figure out the best course of action.

It's about four months old - if that. As for the quality, I have never had any problems with my past Hanns G monitors. This monitor, however, has gone through several car-rides during moving from apartment to apartment as well as a time-out in storage for a few weeks.

Needless to say, it's had its fair share of wear and tear without even being used. I always kept it in the original packaging that it came in when traveling, so that reduced the amount of damage done to it. Regardless, monitors are not meant to be bouncing around in a car for a few hours, then sit under a blanket in 100+ degree heat. My PC survived because I buckle it up and set it in front of the AC during car rides.

It happened again when I turned my PC on, but resolved the problem by itself rather quickly. However, after the color corrected itself, I noticed that some parts (horizontal lines) of the screen were still a bit fuzzy (referring back to the "snow channel" look). To be more specific, this is a Hannstar HG216 21.6" LCD. I have been searching online to see if this is a normal problem, and I cannot find anything about the color going haywire.

Still continuing, except it's worse now. I just turned my monitor back on after I got home from work and the entire screen was black and white. No color except for a hint of green in some areas. It's obvious that my monitor is either dying on me after only a few months, or it's defective. Either way, I need to buy a replacement because I need something to use while I ship this one back to be repaired.

I will be making a new thread asking about good quality monitors as I will probably use this (the repaired version) on my old PC rather than my old CRT.
