I've been having problems with tearing in my games. I have three games right now, well actually two full games and a demo. The demo is Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The other two games are Unreal Tournament and Red Faction. Red Faction is a Direct3D game. Anyways, I cannot play these games without VSync on because of the very annoying tearing that occurs. And even with VSync on, the tearing is bearable, but still there. I shouldn't have tearing with VSync on, at least not as much as I'm having. I'm kind of pissed about this because I didn't get a G4 Ti4400 just to never get anymore than 75 fps and deal with tearing all the time. My system specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1900+
Asus A7V333 mobo
512 MB DDR RAM
My monitor is a cheap 17" Alton (Have you ever heard of Alton? Me neither.) I've been told that my monitor is the problem, as it cannot handle the fps my video card puts out. Is my monitor indeed the problem?
If so, I'm looking to buy a new monitor. I found a Viewsonic PF775 (17 in.) that I like at mwave.com for $240.50. It says the max refresh rate at 1024x768 is 118 Hz. Well, on the Nvidia configuration utility for my Geforce4 Ti4400, on the monitor tab it just gives options for 60, 70, 72, 75, 85, 100, and 120 Hz. So how would I be able to get this monitor to run at 118 Hz? Thanks in advance.
