65Hz is not an acceptable refresh rate...at least for me. After just a few mins of staring at 65hz, my eyes will get tired. 75hz is the minimum for me, 85 is ideal.

But for a 17 incher, I doubt your friend will be using it at 1280x1024....on my old 17", I had it at 1028x780. The samsund should be able to do 85 at that resolution.

I ordered this monitor too. Running 1280 x 1024 on a 17" is too small my taste and the low refresh rate ain't gonna help either. I'll be running 1024 x 768 @ 85Hz once I receive my monitor.

65hz is unacceptable for most people. I use to run 1024x768@60hz on my old 15" for years but my eyes would always hurt. Now after I enjoy some nice 85hz refresh rate, using 65hz gives me a headache very quick. I might be able to stand 75hz for a little bit.

Now that is a good monitor, but like the 755DF and the 19" 955DF, the refresh rates are a bit low. But like zuffy said, 1280x1024 may be too small for some people. I think most people with 19" monitors run at 1280x1024.

The 755DF does do 1280x1024@85hz though. It's on Samsung Monitor It also can do 1024x768@85hz (in spite of saying recommend res being 1024x768@75hz) like the 753DF. I can see where you got the 753DF though because of the $30 mail-in rebate.

So in summary, the monitor will be fine if you don't run 1280x1024 or you will run that resolution, just don't mind the low refresh rate but that's bad on your eyes.

75hz is my min as well - my cheapo 17" runs 1280x1024 at 60 (or 65???) can't remember..but it's flickery and
brain boggling...hurts...

i haven't noticed a difference between 75 and 85hz really...i'm running my monitor at 1152x864 at 75hz...enjoy it.
