I have an old Mag DX700T monitor that I bought 8/22/98 and should still be under the three year warranty.

This is going to be hard to explain: the problem is that dark lines run across the whole screen whenver there is an object on the screen. For instance, and reduced IE window in the middle of the screen would show lines that would run across the top of the IE window, across the desktop. Lines show even across the taskbar, and icons in the control panel.

Its very hard to describe, but I think I shouldn't be doing this. IF you know what I am talking about, do you know what it's called?

thanks

The only way that can be a monitor problem is if the circuitry that handles the on-screen display is bad, but I think you instead have a problem with the video card or its driver software.

2 Things to consider.

1) wherever the lines appear are the same kinds of images appearing (maybe a similar intensity or color)

2) Can you "influence" the lines by moving different windows around? Is it one "type" of thing that cause this (i.e. title bars, start buttons, windows objects)

Most likely explanation (respectively)

1) Monitor. Call up RMA and get yourself a new one :) either way your getting a new monitor free :)

2) Some type of video card/driver/conflict... much harder to troubleshoot.

Does the same thing happen with a different monitor? Could also be the cable but you probably can't replace the cable on that monitor. If you try a different monitor and it works fine, RMA time.
