Hi,

Just finished installing "Brothers In Arms" (video game); upon trying to launch it, my monitor says the horizontal frequency which is 98.2KHz, is not supported as it goes up only to 96KHz.

Any idea what can be done about it?

use a tool like nvtweak2 or hztool ot set the frequencies for different resolutions/color depths manually.

I could'nt find nvtweak2; hztools is way too old, and it also gives an error about not finding drivers. I installed the specific driver for my monitor and am using it instead of the native one given by MS. in my video card properties (6600GT) the MAX horizontal frequency is correct (96KHz)...

What gives?

under refresh rate override, click the override refresh rate radio button.

edit: you odwnloaded this instedd od adding a dword value called coolbits right? this is coolbits 2 not 1.

I forced 75Hz and 60Hz RR, but BIA still causes the issue.

I installed this coolbits as you suggested... How do I remove it?

dont need to. if you set everything to default, then it has no purpose. dosent even run as a background process. it's just a set of options in your driver. if you really need ot remove it, you hae to use regedit.

When I right-click on the desktop, the menu is stuck for a fraction of a second before it is shown and it started taking place after installing coolbits. Will System Restore be of any help?

hmm, it's instant for me.

why would oyu system restore for such a small problem? unistalling and reinstalling the driver will take care of it, but it shouldnt be happening. my only slowdown is when i click on my gfx card tab in advanced options and that's cause im ocing and it has to change frequencies.

He's not talking about the refresh rate though is he?

My horizontal frequency is 56.5Khz currently. 1024X768 70hz refresh.

You need to cut back on the res or bit depth you are trying to run the game at. The higher the res, the higher the horiz freq required.

I get that message right after I double-click the "Brothers In Arms" icon. I'm running my desktop at 1024x768@85Hz w/32bpp. I even attempted lowering it to 800x600@60Hz but to no avail...

Can you change your monitor driver to the generic Plug and Play monitor and see what happens?

I'm not sure if that was the driver you were initially using. If it was then just disregard my babbling. :D

THANK YOU!!!

Windows XP had detected my monitor all along but I insisted on installing the official driver that came with the monitor and was supplied by the manufacturer. After rolling back to the native driver of my OS, the problem was gone! Seems like MS knew how to write better drivers for my monitor than the maker itself... ;)

Again, thanks a lot!
