Monitor Geometry and Video Cards

Title sums it up- can the geometry of a monitor's image change when connected to different video cards? Or, asked another way, can geometry problems on a monitor be rectified by changing video cards? By geometry, I mean pincushioning/barrel distortion, parallelogram/trapezoid issues that can't be fixed using on-screen controls.
