Monitor for R9 Fury

I recently picked up an R9 Fury off Newegg for $309. The Sapphire nitro tri-x. I've got it in an x58 system with an i7-920 that I will upgrade to an x5650 very soon.

I'm kind of hung up in which monitor to get though.

One option is the 1080p 34" 21:9 monitor from LG. It is 75hz and his for around $350.

I fear the pixelation though. Also this gives me little room to upgrade because if I get another fury, I will significantly surpass the refresh rate.

The other is the new 32" HP Omen. It is a VA panel that is 75hz and is 1440p. I fear 1440p is too much to handle for a single fury but I can get another in the future.

The last and my least favorite is the 1440p ips screen from Pixio. 1440p. It's a cheap Korean monitor but is supposedly decent. However that refresh rate combine with free sync.

Is crossfire worth it? Too much hassle? Which would you choose and why?

Save my money and go for 1080p ultra wide or go straight for 1440p with plans to add another card?

And yeah I know it's a power eater but I don't care.

I have a 3440x1440 ultrawide at 75Hz and have the Sapphire Nitro Fury.

I would get something that's 75Hz minimum to benefit from the Fury's power - if you can get 120Hz+ IPS at an affordable price that would be ideal. I don't know enough about the Pixio to comment beyond that the specs look good on paper (144Hz, Freesync, 1440p).

I wouldn't bother with Crossfire considering Vega is coming out soon-ish.

Same setup here, its a great combo.

Check out Acer refurb for $500ish XR341CK that come in stock every now and then. LG and Samsung both announced new monitors as well, but I'd say go for > 1440p @ > 60hz for best experience. The 3440x1440 @ 75hz is a great combo.

It's a horrid time to buy a monitor it feels. Just going off feeling I just tried to shop for a monitor and it's like everything is almost there but not quite

I don't understand how y'all are running those monitors with a fury. Doesn't seem up to the task.

I worry about lowering settings and dealing with low fps on 1440p. I'm pretty set on the Omen ive heard amazing things about it. The thing is huge.

I expect IPS panels to hit all the right specs next year, but then everyone will have their eye on OLED. There are some 4K, 120hz, 0.1ms response time, 50,000 hours until half brightness OLED panels coming from Dell very soon. Those specs mean it will be better than even CRT in every conceivable way if the specs are to be trusted. Jesus man, imagine something like that? Not to mention the color reproduction and perfect blacks? Holy hell. Give me one of those in 3440x1440 and I'm in heaven. Its coming. It will make IPS look like absolute garbage technology. Also, paper thin and will weigh nothing.

Fury handles it very well actually. Considering its almost 4k you'll have to turn down a few settings regardless of what game it is or what card you'd have. Most games have very little IQ difference between "Max" and the next "High" setting.

It has less than half the pixels of 4k. Four times as many as 720p, approx 1.7 times as many as 1080p. 4k is 4 times the amount of 1080.

Having tinkered with amd's super resolution downscaling thingamajig, I get great performance at 1440p on mgsv ground zeroes. With free sync I think that's he best choice.

Considering the Xeon will hold back high fps at 1080 and fury gets better relative performance at 1440, that seems choice.

Question is will 4gb hbm hold it back in the future? I've heard arguments from both sides with data to support either.

Some say games use less VRAM on him others cite examples where it's been overloaded in games like GTA v. Is this a concern for me?

And as far as future tech goes, I don't worry about that. There's always something around the corner that will make me regret my purchase.

But that new Hp Omen is hella tempting. VA panel? Yes please. 32"? Wtf is this, a TV? A good sized one by old time standarsds. I missed out on the sake though. Was selling for 350 or so.

Was talking about ultrawide which is 3440x1440 which is 4,953,600 pixels

16:9 1440p is 3,686,400, so 1/3 more.

But yeah it handles it very well, have yet to see any issues with the VRAM limiting.

If you can run 1440p, you can run the ultrawide variant. Its a hit to performance but nothing that can't be managed pretty easily.

Yeah I'm definitely going for 1440p now that I've played around with it. The ultrawides seem a bit much for my tastes though.

The Omen is calling to me. I hear new VA panels are great.
