Hallo! As the title suggests, i like to sit a little too far away from my monitor, relax, and play WoW when i have a few hours of freetime during the week. I've been convinced that Widescreen is better than CRT for games, and that i need at least a 22" monitor...But i'd like to go as big as i can w/o the size overshadowing my computer.

3ghz P8400 intel core duo
evga 9800 gt 512mb
6gb 800 RAM
vista 64bit

I've checked out newegg and the like, here are my current tastes...Tell me whatcha think! ^_^

22" Asus at $180
ASUS VW222U Black 22" 2ms(GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor with HDCP support 300 cd/m2 1000:1 (ASCR 2000:1) http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824236028

24" Acer at $300
Acer X243Wbd Black 24" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 400 cd/m2 3000:1 ACM with HDCP support
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824009152

22" at $160
Hanns·G Hi-221DPB Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1

I can't seem to find a 26" that is under $500 and doesn't have terrible reviews, so i haven't added that to the list =)

Hello Kikkeo, and welcome to the forums.

If you are really serious about a large monitor (how half-blind are you?) look into a 32" 1080p HDTV around Black Friday. We've already seen a few sales lately with various brands at $600. I know it is a bit above what you want to pay, but it might be cheaper during holiday sales. The resolution would be 1920x1080 which is just under that of a typical 24". Your 9800 GT should be able to do that (perhaps with shadows turned down a bit). Of course the major benefit is that you have a picture nearly 3' diagonally.

When it comes to monitors, the bigger the better; especially if you like to sit "far away" as you have said.

You have a nice system, but when talking about a 24" or larger monitor, your videocard becomes the weak spot. The 9800GT is a great card for 22" and under and a decent card for a 24" with details turned down on most new games like Crysis, CoD4 etc.

For WoW you would be fine with your 9800GT and a 24" monitor. Just don't expect to load up Stalker Clear Sky and play with the eye candy turned up.

I vote the 24" Acer.

*edit*

Oooooor you could go w/Zap's suggestion. ;) I forgot about the Black Friday sales coming up!

22-24 widescreen is probably big enough (I'm used to a 19" CRT). I just want to make sure that the widescreen-ness doesn't make it seem small by comparison ^_^

Since all you're playing is WoW go for the 24" Acer.

Also make sure you get a nice wireless mouse & keyboard.

I play WoW on a 22" with a crusty old 7800GT :D, min shadows and no aa/af though. :(

I would go for the 24" from your choices.

24"
and crt is dead.
you won't be able to go back...crt is like tunnel vision. widescreen is better for desktop use as well. and lcd is better for your eyes. course don't use the ridiculous brightness levels set at factories sometimes just to show off.
don't worry about overshadowing your computer.

A 22" widescreen is like a 19" normal LCD in height, but a few inches wider. A 19" CRT is even smaller. So, even with a 22" you will be going up in size both tall and wide.

You're never, ever too old for new toys! The toys just change as you get older (and have more budget available, heh).

If you've never had a LCD at home (or ever used one?!) you'll very VERY happy with what you see. And don't see. A 24" LCD takes up less desk space than a 19" CRT; you'll actually have empty desk staring at you. :)

Years ago I was one of those "CRT picture can't be beat. Accuracy of color, native 4:3, blah, blah, blah" people.

Yeah. And then all new games had widescreen profiles right off the bat, video card manufs also had widescreen built into the drivers. It was all taken care of in the space of about a year. And of course, LCD prices plummetted about 100% in the space of a year as well.

No more refresh rate to worry about. I.E. 60Hz refresh on a CRT looks like complete crap. But 60Hz refresh rate on a LCD is native and looks GREAT!

Oh, just click "Buy now!" already. ;)

Good luck and enjoy!

Im just going to say Ive had to deal with acer's customer service which prettty much was non existent. I had to ship my monitor back to them 2xs to get the same problem fixed. So in the end I ended up paying 120 in shipping. GO ACER :(
