I got interested in buying a new monitor after reading the review on the GTX 460 and playing some SC2. Plus I wanted a new monitor for a long time now so I've been searching around and doing some research on and off. I'm a multimedia person user who games on the side. HDMI port is a plus, as it'd be neat to connect things other than my computer to the monitor, like a PS3 in the future or whtever. Size of the monitor doesn't matter to me. What matters is the price, as I'd like to keep it below $200, with it being the cheaper the better. I also have a $15 Newegg gift card that I could use towards the purchase as well.

I'm using the thread stickied at the top, but it's a bit outdated. But the information in it does help a lot.

Some examples of the monitors I'm looking at:

Are LCD monitors that much worse compared to LED monitors? This video here makes it seem like LCDs are NOT the monitor to buy now that LED are available and not that expensive to buy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQHcpF7wY8c

Thanks

if you want to get a good monitor what you want to look for is panel type. it doesnt matter how good the backlight is if the panel itself is still generating shitty colors in the first place. LED backlighting does make a big difference if the panel you have is capable of generating good colors to begin with, but if it looks like ass, its just gonna look like prettier ass if you get an LED backlight vs the standard CCFL. the big difference is going to come soon, when they can start printing OLED displays for "cheap". if you are going to get an LED backlight display i would say look for something with some type of VA panel. they arent to great for gaming due to input lag but they're a lot cheaper than expensive IPS panels, and they look a good bit nicer than TN panels as well. if you're on a budget, im using 2 TN panels now myself and i dont mind it all in all. i would rather spend the extra money right now getting more monitors than getting a better looking one, especially when 28" TN panels with VESA mount can be had for less than $300 on sale. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824254043 that monitor was $270 on black friday, and i have seen it for 280-290 as well, sometimes offering mail in rebates in addition. i have the model that came before it, but with the same panel. its nice all in all for the price, and the stand it came with is better, but the new one has VESA mount points while this one doesnt, making it great if you want to save even more space on your desk and you have walls near you to mount to. only uses a TN panel though, so it gives you an idea on pricing vs some of the other models as well.

Well I'm using a like 6 year old 17" Sharp monitor and have a limited budget, so everything you just said is irrelevant...

The information you gave does help though.
