monitor flashing... can't fix it!

Hello,

My monitor (samsung 753DF) is flashing a lot lately. I have no idea why. I thought it might be the speakrs being next to the monitor, but even after a day of removing them, the problem arises again. Basically what happens is that the monitor will change tints/brightness in a flashing manner. I can still read what is on the screen, but the colors change. It is like it is changing from 9300k to 6500k color temperatures back and forth. Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried dusting out my cmoputer making sure all connections were good. Also, i cleaned up the head of the monitor connected. The video card I own is new too (a few weeks old). I don't understand the problem or how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

sounds very like a connection problem between the monitor and the video card connector ... maybe its possible some pins are not making contact correctly .. or just that the connector is failing .... i used to have a Sony monitor at work that had this problem .. with changing color tones .. and flashing .. and it was cause the connector turned bad ....

Try reseating your video card. Check the vga cable connection to the vid card. If that doesn't do anything, try testing another monitor to see if the problem persists.

Hi again,

I already tried reseating the video card. it's a shame that I don't have another monitor to test on at this time, but i'll try and get a friend to let me borrow one.

Actually, right now there is no flashing. It just happens like once in a while. I am not sure why though. If i wanted to go about cleaning a connector, or fixing a bad connection, how would i do so? Would I put some kind of solvent or something on the connector? Or just wipe it? Thanks

nope. nothing near the monitor. its in its own corner basically. the monitor is not flashing right now, but it was before. This is weird. I think the monitor's warranty is over also, so that sucks. I'm going to keep trying to get this working.

I borrowed my friend's compter just a fwe minutes ago and tried plugging his compter into this monitor. There were a few minor jumps in color, but less noticeable than in mine. I guess it might be the monitor then.

There was something odd thath appened. When I play THPS3 on Win2K, the drivers chose to run at 100Hz at 800x600. THis always was the case for 2 weeks. However, 2 days ago, when i tried playing THPS3, it said "sync out of range", which was strange since before it always ran fine. So I lowered it to 60Hz and play, and I get the funny color flashing things once in a while now. That might have some contribution to the problem, but it seems like it shouldn't since "sync out of range" should be a safety mechanism. However, maybe from the prevoius weeks when it did play at that 100Hz refresh frequecny, it messed something up? Strange.... don't really know what to make of it.

I just hope the monitor fixes itself up somehow. Thanks

Also, when I look at the a refresh rate when I play THPS3, it says:

63.7KHz 100Hz NP

What is NP??? wat would be PP, PN, NN? Thanks

That kind of issue is almost always the monitor (assuming no outside influences like fans etc) .. especially when you start getting color tints to them. Means one of the color guns is going out.

Thanks for the advice. The color gun might be it.

Right now, the monitor is running fine though. No problems at all for a while, however, it might be a sign this monitor is starting to die. Probably going to keep using it until then I guess.

I tried playing THPS3 again, and the it worked at 100Hz (unlike that one instance before, when all this color stuff started). I played for a little while, and I changed back to windows desktop, and there was less changes in color tinting. I dunno ... maybe just needs some "recover time"? Never herad of such athing, but so far the monitor is working again.

Thanks for the help. I'm gonna keep an eye out or deals on monitors.
