Monitor drivers

Hello. Just got my new Sceptre monitor and so far it seems like a good buy. alot more real estate not only on my monitor size, but also the size of FREE SPACE on my desk! It is definately got a different feel to it than a CRT. Not a bad feel, but a different feel.

Anyway, I was over at the hardforums and I notice that someone mentioned a monitor driver. Someone posted a quickie on how to set up the monitor driver. I used the method and now I suppose XP sees my monitor. However I tried it out on some quake 4 and Im not really a big fan. I have rolled back to the default monitor driver.

What will a monitor driver do, and where is a good one to find for mine? I checked out Sceptre's website and found a monitor driver, but I looked like it was from 1996!

Can anyone give me a hand?

Most monitors that are built worth a damn will tell the display driver everything it needs to know via EDID, so a monitor "driver" isn't always necessary. I put that in quotes because a monitor driver is usually just a data file containing info about the monitor's capabilities, which the system can often read straight from the monitor anyway if you use the PnP monitor profile.
