monitor drivers are mostly the same right?

since most monitor drivers are basically settings which tell your comp what resolution and refresh is safe to run on.. then theoretically, you can mix and match drivers from different vendors right? having it set to "default monitor" on win2k doesn't allow me to adjust the refresh rate. which set of drivers out there have the widest range of refresh settings? i'm looking to run my 19 inch at 1600x1200 at 62mhz refresh? but it doesn't allow that option using the "default monitor" drivers.

technically you can mitch and match because they just say
"These are the compatable resolutions, color depth, and refresh rates"

you can also create your own monitor inf file so you don't have to worry about accidentally sellecting a setting that is incompatable.
