My friend says his computer will run through the screen saver and when it is suppose to go into standby it goes back to the desktop. I was wondering if anyone here had this problem and a possible solution. His computer is clean and the power management feature is enabled.

Thats strange. Is this windows xp? Is this a lcd or crt? Has he tried a different monitor to try to eliminate his current one as the problem.

well, standby, and jsut turning off the monitor are different things, is he just wanting to kill the video to the monitor but leave the system up so a simple mouse nudge will bring it back, or does he want FULL system standby where the system kind of hibernates and takes a second before it will be usable again

well for starters, lets check the settings, on the desktop properties, under screen saver, there should be "monitor power" on the bottom, click that power button, and it should say, turn off monitor, and give you a drop down box, i have mine set for 45 minutes, that way i can walk away for a little bit and still come back to an on screen, but if i walk away for a good while, it will kick it off. Screensavers are typically just novelty now anyway, have him turn it off jsut to see if thats whats interfering with it, SOME use 3d drivers, and other things that can be wonky when getting a command from the computer to kick off video, and often times just ends up killing the 3d accelleration, leaving 2d, and drops you to the desktop, lemme know how it goes
