just got this problem few days ago, was using the computer when all of sudden the display went off. monitor is still on, just no display. CPU seems to be functioning properly but HD was constantly accessing. had to restart and all seems to be normal but won't last for 5 mins until the problem came back. i suspect maybe mobo is giving the problem??any idea?

Computer specs would be nice.

In the meantime, try clearing the CMOS via the MB jumper.
Also, check the CPU fan for functionality. It may be overheating.

Whoa, pull up a bit thar, cowboy. Don't be so quick to send the boy under the hood just yet. Look at the Ops' post count, and don't assume everyone knows how to reset the cmos,(pliers with the power still on), or what to do after,(palette snoop). IMO, clearing the cmos would do absolutely nothing for him anyway. If the cpu was overheating, would it still be sending commands to the HD keeping it spinning up? BE patient, ask the OP a few questions, e.g. , sys. specs. , and where to find them, does he have any utils. like coretemp, or cpuz, any new down loads, drivers, plug-ins, porn, is the monitors cable secure?
