My monitor won't turn on. It actually went black on me when my comp was on, so I had to switch to my 12 year old 15 inch crt(lol). I was wondering what the problem could be. Is it either a dead monitor or a dead power supply? Any way to find out?

There is an "on" light near the power button, but whenever I try to turn it on, the light never shows up(its 4 years old). Please help!

If the 15" CRT works fine I presume your using a VGA connection so you've ruled out the system If your video card has a VGA port it's working so you've ruled that out. Now if you used an adapter and your GPU has only DVI connection then you've ruled out DVI as the root of your trouble but you may have a bad cable try a different one you could even try a new or different power cord. Do you see where I'm heading with this.? It's the process of elimination. If you have a spare GPU try that too. Eventually you will come to a conclusion what is dead or dying. If you don't have the spare parts laying around see if you can barrow from a friend.
Good Luck
