Monitor comparisons (LCD)

I hear about people bitchin all the time about how LCDs have ghosting and crap and say thats one of the downfalls of dell's LCD monitor but I have two LG Studioworks 880LC LCD monitors from 1999 and I haven't noticed ghosting.. So what I'm wondering is if it's I don't know what to look for or these are very good monitors.

If they are from 99, they probably have pretty high response times(the lower the respose time, generally the less ghosting), so your just not seeing the ghosting. Ghosting is where somthing might move across the screen and the monitor sort of blurs it across, and a tail follows out of it.. A good way to look for ghosting is move the cursor around and see if there is a bit of a trail that follows it. If you can't see ghosting though, I don't see why you would want to as it might start bothering you.

The only thing Inotice when I'm "scanning the screen" with my character in the game (moving the character's POV from North to south) is the screen trying to catch up with little "blocks" (textures) showing up which kind of creates distortion in the picture but I think thats a video card issue and not the monitor.

It's really application dependent. You won't notice it in anything other than high movement things such as games or sometimes movies. And it's also dependent on the person. Some people are tolerant of ghosting, like me. I game on an LCD with 40ms response currently, and while I notice it, I don't think it's too bad. Some people can't stand it at all for some reason. If you don't have any complaints about it, don't look for one. 🙂
