Monitor calibration - Samsung 215TW

Newbie here: Just purchased a Samsung 215TW to use with a nVidia 7600GT for photo editing. Is it better to default the card and adjust the monitor, or the other way around? I assume it?s not a good idea to tweak both. What about ClearType: on or off?

If you need to be very critical with the colors. then
there are many third party programs out there
for adjusting the colors on your monitor.

Clear type just fattens out the fonts so you don't see the dots, important for text people.
I use it and its generally recommended to turn it on.
