Monitor cable: Go BNC or stay with D-Sub?

ndee

That's my question cuz I got the "old" monitor from my parents. It's the Samsung SyncMaster 700NF 😉 They just bought a flat-panel. So the SyncMaster has BNC inputs. How much would I benefit if I would use BNC cables? This time, I don't care about $$$ 😉

Thanx

there were a bunch of threads about this awhile ago, and the consensus was that they don't make a big enough difference to justify themselves.

i'm living proof, i upgraded to BNC and to this day can't tell the difference...be we DID all decide that

1) it MIGHT help at extremely high resolutions and

2) that it's COOl to say you use bnc cables!

I absolutely LOVE my BNC cable!!!

It's by far the best upgrade I've made to my computer in the last year besides adding more RAM. My Elsa GF2 32MB card had OK 2d performance, it was sharper than most other nVidia cards I saw, but I could tell it got slightly blurry above 1024x768 on my Samsung 700IFT as the text sharpness is awesome on this shadow mask.

I spent my $15 to have the cables shipped to me, plugged it in and was like "WHOA!" when I got to my desktop.

I also used to get this annoying "shimmer" with the corners of the screen because of the large amounts of EM interference in the dorms. Completely gone with the BNC cable.

I've even had people with really nice Sony monitors complement me on the sharpness of my monitor now, even had one guy offer to buy my monitor because it was the sharpest he had ever seen. 😀

Point is: BNC cables ROCK!!!

BNC do provide better signal quality than D-sub, AN EXAMPLE... most all D-sub cables came with ferrite chokes (the big lump near the VGA connector), they are nominally effective beginning at 50Mhz to assure FCC class B certification, which caused greater crosstalk artifacts at very high resolution usage --> blurriness, ghosting....

All the threads i've seen on this has said that BNC is superior to D-Sub. Personally, i haven't tried BNC yet, just haven't remembered to pick up a BNC cable when i'm at a techshop.

where do u connect your BNC cables i can only c a d-sub output on my matrox, and a d-sub cable from my monitor? i have LOADS of bnc cables...

Go BNC. My Sony 19 incher has both, but came with a DSUB cable. After I went out and got a BNC, I could clearly notice the difference. Especially with text.

I paid $65 for a high-end uber-shielded BNC cable for my Viewsonic P817.

The cable I bought was intended for corporate server rooms with lots of interference. It was definitely overkill, but there was a noticable difference. Colors were more vivid and text was sharper (there seems to be a slight fuzziness in text when using D-sub now that I've used BNC)... easier on the eyes in high-res.

It was worth it.

Well it's a 17" monitor and I'd like to use 1280x960. I mean high-resolution is relative. For a 17" monitor, I guess 1280x960 is a high resolution.

Thanx
