Monitor broken? Time for a new one?

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 191t which has been giving me problems lately, I think anyway... Basically, it turned on only when it wanted to. Today, the power went out and the power and input lights on the monitor just keep flashing when I turn the computer on. I removed the DVI cable from the back of the monitor and turned it on to see if the diagnostic "Checking for signal" box would come up and it did not.

Now... per the FAQ at samsung.com, the monitor needs servicing if this happens because this means the backlight is out (which is what I thought originally).

I'm pretty sure its out of warranty so is my next option to buy a new monitor? There are no other issues that could be causing this?

Thanks a lot.

I'd say if you go thru samsung to fix the issue and its out of warr. it will cost you a good bit... shipping there and back, labour (and i am sure samsung pays their techs a very high hourly--rounded up--rate LOL)

Well, they have a list of authorized service centers. I didnt bother since I just figured, like most things, it would be better to buy a new one than to have this one fixed. Any idea what something like this will run, parts-wise anyway? If its going to be 200+ for the parts alone, I'll just purchase a new one.

No clue on parts but having the techies do it will be at least 200. Shoot the computer dude next door would charge 100 just to look at it! I would say get a new one and be done with it.

I'm looking at another 19''. Personally, I dont think I need the real estate provided by anything bigger plus I dont want to take a performance hit when gaming due to the higher native resolution. So I've pretty much settled on 19".

I've been doing some research online and I think I might just go to my local Best Buy/CompUSA and pick up a Samsung Syncmaster 930b. Its not too much money and seems to be right up there with the best of em these days, at least as far as gaming goes. But if you can recommend something better, I'm listening. I would say my limit as far as money goes is around 600 bucks.
